Wasps on the Window......

Before I left for the school run this afternoon, I noticed 20 or so wasps congregating on a window outside. By the time I got home there were hundreds of them making a nest!

.

Found Lal, he admitted he’d seen it already, forgot to mention it, lil giggle and was just rounding up the malis to get them to smoke them out. Now I don't know about you but where I come from we open the Yellow Pages and call for a wasp removal expert! Nup, not here, you have malis Madam, they will kick them out (yep that's what Lal said)!

Next thing I see the W Team (for wasp) come through the gate ... queue music dumdum dada dumdum ... Lal holding a blanket, Ramesh holding a home made torch & Raj Kumar carrying a bowl of what smells suspiciously like kero to me!

Where’s Rajesh?

Then I witness what sounds and looks suspiciously like Lal trying to talk Ramesh into going onto the roof to help, it’s clear even in Hindi that he’s scared witless and there’s no way he’s doin any more than he already has ..... see nervous the smile on Ramesh's face!

Come on Ramesh don't be a baby ... no way Lal, I am SO not going up there, no way, not a chance, not me, here you take the torch.

I point out that the window closeby has a crack that I suspect wasps could crawl through, Lal assures me this will not happen. Yeah right if I end up having a swam of wasps in my house tonight I’ll be sure to remind you that you said that Lal!

not a chance not even if the pole is this big!

Madam, please don't make me do it!
ok Raj this is what you're gonna do!

Clearly Raj has drawn the short straw so he, climbs up the ladder to the roof, precariously carrying the kero bowl, Ramesh runs out on the terrace to throw up the matches then dives back inside! Lal sets Raj up, lights the torch and then dashes inside and yells instructions! Raj can’t push the torch low enough to get the smoke to annoy the wasps so gives up, but not before I notice that the now flaming torch is made from one of my tea towels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gonna kill them if the wasps don’t do the job for me!

So Lal gets the pool pole and attaches the teatowel torch to the pool pole, covers himself in the blanket and does what he should have done in the first place .. the job himself! He’s a good supervisor ..... to date I haven’t seen him do anything himself!

Wasps are duly torched, they fly every which way, Lal puts the torch down, covers his face, I open the door and let him in, surprisingly he only brings in one dead wasp!

The wall is scorched and the wasps are in chaos mode. Loads of bbq’d ones on the windowsill and a number of wasps still determined to make a nest despite being partly crispy fried.

I sit down at my desk to load these pics and see Rajesh, who has clearly been hiding in the toilet until the job was done, appear through the gate, a big smile on his face. Laughing no doubt that he’d avoided wasp removal duties!

The boys dash off, all smiles (more relief that it’s over ... or so they think).

I start typing my blog (cause I took heaps of pics in the process knowing this was blog material) and while I do the girls keep reporting how many wasps have joined the new nest.

The wasps come back in their hundreds and recongregate next to the graveyard, it’s getting late, the malis have gone and I’ve found wasp inside ... alive! Lal’s job is soooooooooo not done for the night!

We find another wasp in the house, I drag Lal in, he tells me no there are no wasps in the house, I yell YES there are wasps in the house, he doesn't believe me, cause the one I sprayed a second ago has zoomed off in a dying frenzy coated in Mortein, the other one is not visible on the dark windowsill now that it's night time, so I don't have one body as evidence. I throw my best hissyfit and he believes me and agrees to find the hole I told him was there 2 hours ago!

So far ... no return of the wasps ....
